How is the TOEFL IBT score calculated?

The TOEFL IBT test is not a diploma with a level to achieve ( What is the TOEFL? ), This is a score . You should therefore aim for the best possible grade, as a good score can only enhance your CV and help you land the best university exchanges.

The minimum score required by the Harvard Business School is 109 while a score of 80 on average is enough to integrate an American university as part of an exchange.

Each section is marked out of 30. These scores are then added together to obtain a mark out of 120.

TOEFL IBT Preparation

Calculating the score, game by game

- Reading – Listening: These two sections have multiple choice questions, 1 point per question . Some questions may be worth multiple points, but this is specified. There are no negative points for wrong answers, so you're better off answering randomly if you don't know the correct answer. The total score for each part is then reduced to 30.
To have between 22 and 30 points is a good score.

- Speaking: The 6 questions in this section are rated out of 4 based on three criteria: fluency, vocabulary used and content. It is then brought back to 30 .
To have between 26 and 30 points is a good score.

- Writing: the two questions are rated out of 5 , with criteria such as vocabulary, essay structure, clarity and development. It is then brought back to 30 .
To have between 24 and 30 points is a good score.

Consulting the scores

The scores can be viewed online 10 days after the test . You can also choose to have your results sent to schools (up to four different ones can be selected).

The details of your scores for each section appear on your score report. Many universities pay close attention to the scores you receive for each section, with minimum scores required for some sections.
