TEF Canada as part of Canadian citizenship
To become a Canadian citizen, most applicants must meet various requirements, the main ones being:
- Reside permanently in Canada
- Be a resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
- Declare income
- Obtain a citizenship test
- Have proof of language skills in French or English.
If you plan to obtain Canadian citizenship, you will therefore need to validate a file comprising several elements including validation of language skills in French or English.
In fact, to qualify for Canadian citizenship, it is necessary to prove that you have achieved a NCLC 4 or higher level in French or English in the following tests:
- Listening comprehension: 40 min – 60 questions
- Oral expression: 15 min – 2 topics to cover
Many certificates and diplomas can be used as proof of language skills, provided that the training was completed in French or English
If you do not have a certificate or diploma that can serve as proof of language skills, it is essential to take one of the following tests, accredited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC):
