01

What is the DELE?

The DELE is a diploma issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Open to everyone, it provides official recognition of your Spanish skills on the CEFR scale, from level A1 to C2.

Recognised internationally, it is accepted by public and private institutions (administrations, universities, schools, companies). It may be required to join a university course in Spain, to apply for a job that requires Spanish or to apply for Spanish nationality (B2 level required).

Once obtained, the DELE is valid for life.

02

The 2 versions of the DELE

Understanding the scoring

For the DELE A1 to C1, the 4 tests are graded out of 25 points (total 100), grouped into two blocks: written (50 points) and oral (50 points).

To pass the diploma, you must obtain at least 30/50 in each block and an overall score of at least 60/100. At C2, each test is worth 33.33 points: you need at least 20 points per test and 60/100 overall.

Results are published about three months after the exam. Once obtained, the DELE is valid for life.

05

How to prepare for the DELE?

Like any official language diploma, the DELE requires rigorous preparation and a good understanding of the test format.

PrepMyFuture offers an online preparation: 40 lesson sheets, more than 600 exercises per level, 2 mock tests and 1 DELE mini-test, with trilingual content (French, Spanish, English).

Our training notably covers the DELE B1 preparation and the DELE B2 preparation.

06

How to register for the exam?

In France, registration for the DELE is done through the offices of the Instituto Cervantes (Bordeaux, Lyon, Paris and Toulouse); for other countries, see the list of offices on the official website. Depending on the centre, registration is done online, in person or by email.

You must provide a valid email address, a photocopy of your ID document and make the payment. In France, in 2026, the registration fees vary by level (from 115 euros for A1 to 205 euros for C2).

07

Where can you take the test?

You can take the DELE in one of the 1,000 Instituto Cervantes exam centres spread across more than 100 countries. The full list is available on the official Instituto Cervantes website.

08

Why take the DELE?

Issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education, the DELE diplomas are the most widespread Spanish-as-a-foreign-language certifications in the world.

The DELE is useful for applying for a job that requires Spanish, joining a Spanish-speaking university (B2 is often required) or applying for Spanish nationality (A2 level minimum). It is recognised and valid for life.

09

Tips to succeed in the DELE

First identify the level to take (A1 to C2) and check that it matches your goal (for example, at least B2 for a Spanish university). Plan your preparation over several weeks.

01

First work separately on the four tests (comprehension and expression, written and oral).

02

Once you have mastered the format, train with mock tests to manage your time under real conditions.

03

Expose yourself to the language regularly: press, podcasts, films and series in Spanish (original version).
