What is the DELE B2?

The DELE is the official Spanish diploma issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education. It certifies your level on the CEFR scale and enjoys international recognition.

The DELE B2, advanced level, attests that you are able to understand complex texts, interact with ease and spontaneity and produce clear, detailed discourse. It is often required of foreign students wishing to enrol in a Spanish-speaking university course.

Once obtained, the DELE B2 is valid for life.

The DELE B2 tests

The DELE B2 comprises four tests assessing the four skills, grouped into two blocks (written and oral):

Reading comprehension
70 min · 4 parts · 36 questions

Read several texts and answer questions. Graded out of 25 points.

Listening comprehension
40 min · 5 parts · 30 questions

Listen to several audio documents and answer questions. Graded out of 25 points.

Written expression
80 min · 2 parts

Write two texts following a prompt. Graded out of 25 points.

Oral expression
20 min (+ 20 of preparation) · 3 parts

Evaluate different solutions and discuss them with the examiner, describe an imagined situation based on a photograph, then express an opinion on the data from a survey. Graded out of 25 points.

Understanding the scoring

The 4 tests are graded out of 25 points (total 100), grouped into two blocks: written (50 points) and oral (50 points).

To pass the diploma, you must obtain at least 30/50 in each block and an overall score of at least 60/100.

Results are published about three months after the exam. The DELE B2 is valid for life.

How to prepare for the DELE B2?

Succeeding in the DELE B2 requires rigorous preparation and a good command of the test format.

How to register for the exam?

In France, registration is done through the offices of the Instituto Cervantes (Bordeaux, Lyon, Paris, Toulouse); for other countries, see the list of offices on the official website. Depending on the centre, registration is done online, in person or by email.

You must provide a valid email address, a photocopy of your ID document and make the payment (192 euros for the DELE B2 in France in 2026).

You can take the DELE in one of the 1,000 Instituto Cervantes exam centres spread across more than 100 countries. The full list is available on the official Instituto Cervantes website.
