The 2 versions of DELE

The DELE is available in two versions. Depending on their level and age, candidates must choose the version and then the level to obtain the desired diploma:

  • The general DELE consists of 6 independent diplomas corresponding to the 6 levels of the CEFR scale (DELE A1, DELE A2, DELE B1, DELE B2, DELE C1 and DELE C2). It is intended for people over 16 years old, regardless of their level of education and nationality;

  • The DELE school exam is aimed at children and adolescents aged 11 to 17 and allows certification of levels A1 and A2/B1.

Understanding the notation

For DELE A1 to C1, the 4 tests are individually marked out of 25 points, for a total of 100 points. Correct answers earn points and incorrect answers are not penalized.

The tests are grouped into two blocks:

  • Block 1: written comprehension and expression (50 points);
  • Block 2: oral comprehension and expression (50 points).

To validate the diploma, you must obtain at least 30 points out of 50 in each block and achieve a minimum overall score of 60/100.

For the DELE C2, the tests are marked out of 33.33 points (33.34 for the last test), for a total of 100 points. To validate the diploma, you must obtain at least 20 points in each test and achieve a minimum overall score of 60/100.

Tips for passing the DELE

Before you start preparing for the DELE, identify the level you want to pass (from A1 to C2) and make sure that it corresponds to the requirements of your project (for example, at least level B2 for enrollment in a Spanish university).

We recommend planning your DELE preparation over several weeks. First, work on the four tests (reading, listening, writing, and speaking) separately. Once you've mastered the format of each test, practice with the practice tests to practice in exam-like conditions and improve your time management.

Finally, remember that success on the DELE requires regular exposure to the language: read the Spanish press, listen to podcasts, and watch Spanish-language films or series in their original version as often as possible. The more familiar you are with the language, the more fluency and confidence you will gain on exam day. Your DELE success starts here: a free test at PrepMyFuture!
