What is the IAE-Message Score ?

The IAE-Message Score is a standardized test intended for students who wish to pursue university training in management, mainly in Business Administration Institutes (IAE) at Bachelor's (L2, L3, Professional License) or Master's (M1 or M2) level.

The objective of the test is to measure the skills expected of future managers in four main competencies:

  • General, economic and managerial culture;
  • Comprehension and written expression in French;
  • Logical and numerical reasoning;
  • English comprehension and written expression.

Recognized by more than 400 university programs, the IAE-Message Score allows institutions to assess whether candidates have the necessary skills to succeed in the program to which they are applying. The test is designed and organized by the IAE-Message Score association.

The IAE-Message Score tests

The IAE-Message Score consists of four tests lasting a total of 3 hours. Each test is presented in the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) with 5 answer options, only one of which is correct.

The test consists of a total of 170 questions divided among the four skills assessed. It is recommended to allocate approximately 45 minutes per test, but in practice, you can allocate your time as you wish.

General, economic and managerial culture (50 questions)

The first measures your general knowledge of recent news (last 12-24 months) in economics, politics, business life, but also in the international and cultural fields. It aims to assess your open-mindedness, as well as your ability to read and analyze the press on a daily basis in various fields.

Written comprehension and expression in French (50 questions)

This second part is divided into two parts:

  • The “Expression” section (35 questions) tests your written expression skills, through questions on vocabulary, grammar, spelling, conjugation, but also your ability to reformulate or correct a sentence;
  • The “Comprehension” section (15 questions) measures your ability to understand and analyze a text on an economics or management subject.

Logical and numerical reasoning (20 questions)

The third also has two parts:

  • The "Logic" section (10 questions) assesses your logical reasoning skills, based on calculations or textual data. The questions are asked in a variety of formats. You must analyze all the information provided (explicit or implicit), structure it, and identify inconsistencies. To answer the questions, you must choose a suitable solution method, which can be inductive and/or deductive reasoning.
  • The "Numerical Reasoning" section (10 questions) in which you must perform calculations, read graphs, interpret calculation formulas and use simple algebra principles (fractions, powers, systems of two equations with two unknowns, etc.). The use of a calculator is prohibited.

English Written Comprehension and Expression (50 questions)

In the same format as the French comprehension and expression test, the latter is divided into two parts:

  • The “Expression” section (35 questions) which assesses your written expression skills in English;
  • The “Comprehension” section (15 questions) which measures your ability to understand and analyze a text in English relating to an economics or management subject.

Understanding the notation

The IAE-Message Score consists of four parts, each marked out of 100 points, for a total of 400 points.

Correct answers earn:

  • 2 points for the General Culture, French Written Comprehension and Expression and English Written Comprehension and Expression tests (50 questions per test);
  • 5 points for Logical and Numerical Reasoning (20 questions).

Wrong answers and unanswered questions are not penalized.

There are no passing grades or qualifying marks. Each program sets its own requirements and admission criteria.

Your IAE-Message Score result is available approximately 10 days after the exam in your personal online space. It remains valid for three academic years. You can register for as many sessions as you like, and your result is valid for all partner programs.

Tips for passing the IAE-Message Score

The IAE-Message Score is a notoriously difficult and demanding test. As with any standardized test, you must be able to manage your time and be efficient.

Beyond the key skills to work on, it is important to familiarize yourself with the instructions in order to adopt the right reflexes on the day. Before setting up an IAE-Message Score training program, find out about the expectations of the targeted training courses and set yourself a score objective.

Start by preparing for each test separately, identifying your weak points, then practice with practice tests to get used to the real exam conditions (the four parts follow one another without a break for 3 hours). After each practice session, take the time to analyze your results and understand your mistakes.

On test day, focus on the questions you're comfortable with to earn as many points as possible. Don't get stuck on a difficult question for too long, and remember that you don't lose points for an incorrect answer or no answer at all.

Finally, make sure you get plenty of rest in the days leading up to the test. Your success with the IAE-Message Score depends on good preparation, but also on your ability to concentrate on the day.
