What is LanguageCert ?
LanguageCert is a widely recognized language certification worldwide by governments, institutions, schools, and businesses, thanks to the reliability of its assessments. Its tests are designed to precisely match the levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The tests are aimed at candidates whose native language is not English or Spanish (depending on the test version) and assess written and oral comprehension and expression skills.
Once earned, LanguageCert certifications are valid for life. However, some institutions or recruiters may require recent certification, so it's a good idea to check their requirements before taking the exam.
The 3 versions of LanguageCert
LanguageCert offers three different tests depending on your profile and your objectives:
LanguageCert Test of English
The LTE (LanguageCert Test of English) is designed for students and professionals whose native language is not English and who wish to have their language level assessed. Five certificates are available, depending on your goals:
- LTE A1-C2 4 Skills which assesses the four language skills (reading and listening, writing and speaking). The test can be taken on paper or on a computer.
- LTE A1-C2 Listening & Reading, which assesses your listening and reading comprehension skills, as well as your mastery of grammar and vocabulary. The test can be taken on paper or on a computer. The computerized version is adaptive; the level of the questions changes based on the candidate's answers, allowing for a more accurate assessment of language skills.
- LTE A1-C2 Writing is a writing test that assesses your mastery of written grammar and vocabulary. The test can be taken on paper or on a computer.
- LTE A1-C2 Speaking assesses your English communication skills and your ability to interact naturally and spontaneously on a variety of topics. The test can be taken in person or online.
- LTE A1-B1 Listening & Reading assesses your listening and reading comprehension skills. This test is ideal for beginners. The test is paper-based only.
LanguageCert SELT
The LanguageCert SELT (Secure English Language Test) is designed for non-native English speakers aged 16 and over who are planning to apply for a visa or immigration to the UK. This certification is recognized by the UK government and the UK Visas and Immigration Service (UKVI).
LanguageCert USAL esPro
LanguageCert USAL esPro is aimed at any non-native Spanish speaker who wishes to have their Spanish level assessed in a professional context. The test was developed by the University of Salamanca, the leading institution for the assessment of Spanish as a foreign language.
LanguageCert exams
Depending on the version chosen, LanguageCert tests can assess all language skills (written and oral comprehension and expression) or only some of them. The test format varies between multiple-choice questions, written productions and an oral interview with an examiner.
LanguageCert Test of English
Depending on the certificate chosen, the LTE assesses the following skills:
- In the test Listening & Reading , the Listening section examines your ability to understand dialogues in English while the Reading section assesses your ability to grasp the overall meaning and details of a text written in English. It can be done on a computer in adaptive format and on paper.
- The Writing part assesses your ability to write a text by respecting several criteria (relevance of the response to the subject, grammatical and lexical accuracy, coherence and sequence of ideas)
- The Speaking Part assesses your ability to express yourself orally. You will be asked to answer questions, describe situations or express your opinion in a clear and structured manner.
LanguageCert SELT
The test is an online conversation with an examiner and lasts between 8 and 9 minutes. It assesses your ability to understand and use familiar phrases and expressions, introduce yourself, respond to everyday requests, ask questions, and interact with a native speaker.
LanguageCert USAL esPro
It assesses your ability to work in Spanish and your skills in written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression. The written and oral comprehension test can be taken in two formats:
- The computer-adaptive version allows you to assess your skills in 60 minutes.
- The paper version serves the same purpose, however it takes 110 minutes to complete the test.
The format of the questions is relatively similar between the two versions of the test and the PrepMyFuture preparation covers both formats of this test.
Depending on your goal and the test you choose, not all tests are required. Here is a summary of the tests depending on the test and your goal:
