The Linguaskill tests

THE Linguaskill consists of 3 modules:

1- The comprehension module (written and oral)

This module is composed of a written expression test and an oral expression test. The number of questions varies from one candidate to another, and therefore the duration of the test also ( between 60 and 85 minutes ). Indeed, this module is adaptive, that is to say that the difficulty of the questions adapts according to the candidate's answers. The module lasts until the computer obtains enough answers to identify a level with certainty.

Written comprehension

For this test, the candidate may face different question formats:

  • Read a text then answer a multiple-choice question (choice from 4 options)
  • Complete a sentence by choosing the most appropriate word from a selection of 4 words.
  • Fill in the blanks in a text by choosing the correct option from 4 choices.
  • Fill in a blank text with your own answers.

Read a relatively long text and answer multiple-choice questions related to the text. The questions are asked in chronological order of the text.

Listening comprehension

For this test, the candidate may face two different question formats:

  • Listen to a short text and answer multiple-choice questions
  • Listen to a longer text. Questions are then asked in chronological order of the recording.

2- The written expression module

This module lasts 45 minutes and is divided into 2 parts (each counting for 50% of the final grade for this module):

  • Part 1: Candidates write an email of at least 50 words on a specific topic.
  • Part 2: Candidates write a text of 180 words or more on a given topic. The format of the text can be: article, review or blog post. For the Linguaskill Business , candidates write a letter or report of 180 words or more, addressed to a member of their company or to external clients.

3- The oral expression module

This part of the test is also administered on a computer. Linguaskill General Speaking and Linguaskill Business Speaking are marked directly by examiners or using Cambridge Assessment English's automated marking technology, known as hybrid marking.

The module lasts 15 minutes and is divided into 5 parts (each counting for 20% of the final grade for this module):

  • Part 1: Answer eight questions about yourself (the first two questions are not assessed)
  • Part 2: Read 8 sentences aloud
  • Part 3: Speak for one minute on a given subject (40 seconds of preparation).
  • Part 4: Talk about one or more graphs for one minute (60 seconds of preparation).
  • Part 5: Give your opinion in the form of short answers to five questions on the same subject (40 seconds of preparation).
