The 2 versions of the TOEIC Listening & Reading

The TOEIC Listening & Reading exists in two versions with different exam durations:

  • The one-hour version , reserved for candidates from professional organizations, is an adaptive test that takes place online. The difficulty of the questions is adjusted based on the candidate's responses.
  • The two-hour version , the tests are done in paper format.

The TOEIC Listening & Reading tests

This test, which assesses oral and written comprehension, consists of a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) with only one correct answer from three to four options.

Part One : Listening

You listen to several audio recordings (with only one listening), then answer 100 questions to the rhythm of the soundtrack. Lasting 45 minutes, the test is divided into four parts (45 questions in 25 minutes for the one-hour adaptive version):

  1. Description of photographs (6 questions);
  2. Questions and answers (25 questions);
  3. Conversations (39 questions);
  4. Short presentations or oral announcements (30 questions).

Part Two: Reading Comprehension

You must read various documents (advertisements, emails, articles, etc.) related to daily and professional life, then answer 100 questions at your own pace. The sentences or texts contain a missing word or group of words and you must complete them with one of the answer options. The reading comprehension test lasts 75 minutes and is divided into three sections (45 questions in approximately 37 minutes for the one-hour version):

  1. Sentences to complete (30 questions);
  2. Texts to complete (16 questions);
  3. Reading comprehension (54 questions).
