What is TOEIC Speaking & Writing ?

The TOEIC Speaking & Writing, a variant of the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), specifically assesses your ability to express yourself in spoken and written English in a professional environment. Conducted exclusively on a computer, the TOEIC Speaking & Writing is primarily aimed at:

Your TOEIC Speaking & Writing results remain valid for 2 years.

The TOEIC Speaking & Writing tests

You have the option of taking both tests, speaking and writing , together or separately.

Oral expression ( Speaking )

The speaking test lasts 20 minutes and examines your ability to express yourself in English through 11 varied questions:

• Questions 1 and 2: Read a text aloud (5 minutes);
• Questions 3 and 4: Describe an image (4 minutes);
• Questions 5 to 7: Answer questions (3 minutes);
• Questions 8 to 10: Answer questions using the information provided (4 minutes);
• Question 11: Express your opinion on a given subject (3 minutes).

Your answers, recorded on a computer, are assessed on your pronunciation, intonation, clarity of expression, grammatical mastery and lexical richness.

Written expression ( Writing )

The written expression test lasts 60 minutes and invites you to answer 8 questions:

• Questions 1 to 5: Write a sentence from an image (8 minutes);
• Questions 6 to 7: Reply to an email (20 minutes);
• Question 8: Write an argumentative text of at least 300 words on a given subject (30 minutes).

This section assesses your ability to structure your ideas, clearly formulate your thoughts and develop a coherent argument.

Understanding the notation

Each test is assessed independently out of 200 points. Your results certificate lists your two scores, both converted according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR), ranging from level A1 (beginner) to level C1 (advanced). Here are the correspondences between your scores and the European levels:

The results certificate is available online, on the candidate's ETS Global account, 7 calendar days following the exam date.

Registration for the TOEIC Speaking & Writing test is not directly available to the public in France and the French overseas departments and territories. Therefore, you have two options: either contact your school to check if it offers this test, or register for the TOEIC 4-Skills, which also assesses your speaking and writing skills.

For the latter, registrationfor the TOEIC Speaking & Writing is done on the ETS Global organization website by following a simple process:

• Select the desired test;
• Choose a date and location;
• Fill in your personal information (including a passport photo for the public program);
• Pay the registration fees.

Although registration is still possible up to 2 days before the exam, register one month in advance to guarantee your place.

Where to take the test ?

The TOEIC Speaking & Writing test is only available through select institutions that have a contract with ETS Global. Please contact your institution for more information.

Alternatively, the TOEIC 4-Skills can be taken at numerous authorized centers around the world, which can be found on the interactive map on the ETS Global website. These centers hold sessions throughout the year and are conducted exclusively on computers.
