The TOEIC Speaking & Writing tests

You have the option of taking both tests, speaking and writing , together or separately.

Oral expression ( Speaking )

The speaking test lasts 20 minutes and examines your ability to express yourself in English through 11 varied questions:

  • Questions 1 and 2: Read a text aloud (5 minutes);
  • Questions 3 and 4: Describe an image (4 minutes);
  • Questions 5 to 7: Answer questions (3 minutes);
  • Questions 8 to 10: Answer questions using the information provided (4 minutes);
  • Question 11: Express your opinion on a given subject (3 minutes).

Your answers, recorded on a computer, are assessed on your pronunciation, intonation, clarity of expression, grammatical mastery and lexical richness.

Written expression ( Writing )

The written expression test lasts 60 minutes and invites you to answer 8 questions:

  • Questions 1 to 5: Write a sentence from an image (8 minutes);
  • Questions 6 to 7: Reply to an email (20 minutes);
  • Question 8: Write an argumentative text of at least 300 words on a given subject (30 minutes).

This section assesses your ability to structure your ideas, clearly formulate your thoughts and develop a coherent argument.

Understanding the notation

Each test is assessed independently out of 200 points. Your results certificate lists your two scores, both converted according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR), ranging from level A1 (beginner) to level C1 (advanced).
