CLOE 2025 test training
What is CLOE ?
The CLOE is a certification issued by the network of Language Study Centers (CEL) managed by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI France). It aims to assess your ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, in a professional context.
CLOE certification is mainly aimed at:
- to adults in professional activity (employees, people retraining) who want to have their language skills officially recognized by an employer or recruiter;
- to job seekers wishing to enhance their CV with a recognized certification;
- for students wishing to certify their language level at the end of their studies or as part of a work placement search.
Once obtained, CLOE certification is valid for life.
The different versions of CLOE
In addition to English, the CLOE certification can be issued in 4 other languages:
- Spanish ;
- German ;
- Italian;
- French as a foreign language (FLE).
Regardless of the language, the CLOE certification assesses your written proficiency and your ability to express yourself orally in a work context.
The CLOE tests
The CLOE consists of two complementary tests: an interactive assessment and an oral interview with an examiner. Each part takes place entirely online.
Interactive assessment
This first part takes the form of a 50-question questionnaire, lasting approximately 45 to 50 minutes. It aims to assess the following skills:
- Reading comprehension (10 questions);
- Listening comprehension (10 questions);
- Grammar and syntax (10 questions);
- Professional vocabulary (10 questions);
- Expressions (10 questions).
The assessment is progressive: the difficulty of the questions gradually adjusts to your level based on your answers. The duration of the test is variable, as the response time allowed depends on the difficulty of the questions asked.
Questions may take the form of:
- Text in disorder: put the sentences in the text in order;
- Sentence out of order: put the words in the sentence in order;
- Fill-in-the-blank sentences with different propositions: complete the sentence with the correct words from a drop-down list;
- Fill-in-the-blank sentence without a proposition: complete the sentence with the correct words, without indication;
- Word bank: complete a text with several suggested words;
- Multiple choice question: 4 answer options of which only one is correct, etc.
At the end of the questionnaire, you must make an appointment online to take the oral interview with an examiner.
The oral interview
The oral interview is individual and takes place remotely (via webcam) with an approved CLOE assessor. It lasts between 15 and 20 minutes and aims to assess your ability to express yourself in English in a professional situation.
The assessment criteria cover the following skills:
- Mastery and breadth of vocabulary;
- Grammar and syntax;
- Ease and fluidity;
- Pronunciation and intonation;
- Quality of interaction.
This second part does not require any prior preparation. It takes place in three stages:
- Introductory questions about your work, family, daily life or passions;
- A scenario in which the evaluator simulates a professional situation or one specific to your activity and invites you to react (as in a role play);
- A discussion on a specific topic related to a professional subject or your activity.
Understanding the notation
The language skills assessed in the two tests (interactive assessment and oral interview) are scored separately. An average is then calculated from the two scores obtained.
At the end of the test, you will receive a certificate of results stating this average and the corresponding CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level, ranging from A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficiency).
Obtaining CLOE certification depends on your career goals and the level you're aiming for at the start of the training. The certificate is generally issued 72 hours after the oral interview. It is valid for life.

Why take the CLOE ?
Taking the CLOE English exam provides official certification attesting to your professional English level on the CEFR scale. For employers and recruiters, it provides a reliable benchmark for assessing your ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken, in a professional setting.
Applicable in many sectors of activity (international trade, communications, health, industry, tourism, etc.), the CLOE is an asset for your CV. It highlights your language skills and strengthens the credibility of your applications.
In addition, CLOE certification is eligible for the personal training account (CPF).
Tips for passing the CLOE
Exposing yourself to English daily is the best way to put all the chances on your side on exam day!
To improve your listening comprehension and enrich your vocabulary, watch your favorite movies and series in their original version with subtitles and listen to podcasts in English.
To improve your oral expression, try to communicate in English as often as possible with people whose native language is English. If no one in your circle is English-speaking, there are language exchange platforms or “multilingual cafes” organized in certain cities.
Similarly, regularly reading articles on English-language news sites will help you work on your text comprehension. To succeed in the written expression test, practice writing short texts and have your work corrected by a trainer or a native speaker.
The CLOE certification is designed to assess your English proficiency in a professional context. For effective CLOE English preparation , we recommend focusing your revision on vocabulary relevant to the workplace.
