How long is the IELTS test?
IELTS test duration
The test is divided into four parts of different lengths. Whether you take the IELTS General Training or the IELTS Academic ( What is IELTS? ), the test durations are the same, only the content can change.
Listening: 40 mins
Of these 40 minutes, you will have 30 minutes to listen to the audio recordings. You then have 10 minutes to write your answers.
Reading comprehension: 1 hour
This section is made up of different texts to which several questions are attached which can take a variable format: multiple choice questions, short answers, fields to fill in, etc. The candidate manages the 60 minutes of this test completely independently.
Written expression (Writing): 1 hour
This test is considered by many candidates to be the most difficult, so organize your time well to be as efficient as possible.
There are two exercises in this test, we advise you to do the first part of the test in 20-25 minutes, and the other part in 35-40 minutes ( What the IELTS test contains ).
Oral expression (Speaking): 11-14 mins
For 3-4 minutes, the examiner asks you personal questions (what studies you are doing, your passions, your professional project, etc.).
You are given a topic (e.g., “What was the last book you read?”) and you have 2 minutes to think and 4 minutes to talk.
The examiner asks you questions on the previous topic with the aim of deepening it: 3-4 minutes.
The speaking part does not necessarily take place on the same day as the other tests, this depends on the examination centers.
