What is LanguageCert USAL esPro ?

LanguageCert is a globally recognized language certification recognized for the rigor of its assessments. LanguageCert tests are aligned with the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

LanguageCert USAL esPro is the former Spanish BULATS (Business Language Testing Service). Developed by the University of Salamanca, LanguageCert USAL esPro is a certification designed to assess your Spanish language skills in the workplace. It assesses all language levels classified by the CEFR, ranging from A1 to C2.

LanguageCert certificates (including USAL esPro) are valid for life. However, some organizations, such as immigration authorities or certain employers and educational institutions, may require a recent certificate. This test can be retaken as many times as you like.

The LanguageCert USAL esPro exams

LanguageCert USAL esPro consists of three separate tests, each of which can be taken individually or together. However, it is recommended that you take them together to get a comprehensive overview of your Spanish language skills.

Auditory and reading comprehension (written and oral comprehension)

It assesses your mastery of the basics of business Spanish grammar. This test offers several types of exercises: understanding short conversations and identifying information, taking a phone message, listening to a speech and extracting specific information from it.

This test exists in two formats: one computer-based and one paper-based. In the adaptive version, the difficulty of the questions changes based on your answers. The first questions are intermediate-level, then adjust gradually (more difficult after a correct answer, easier after an incorrect answer). It stops once your level is accurately determined by the computer.

The adaptive version of the test lasts approximately 60 minutes and the paper version approximately 110 minutes.

Written expression and interaction (written expression)

It focuses on language proficiency, clarity of message and the ability to write professionally.

The test is divided into two parts; the first is the writing of a short response (15 minutes) of 50 to 60 words to a message, an announcement or a memo while the second is the long writing (30 minutes) of a report or a letter of 180 to 200 words, to be chosen from two subjects. This test can be done on computer or on paper.

Oral expression and interaction (oral expression)

This test assesses spontaneity, grammatical accuracy, richness of vocabulary, and clarity of speech. It begins with an interview about your background, career plans, and interests. It then continues with a one-minute presentation on a topic related to the world of work. Finally, you must improvise an interaction and participate in a debate with the examiner.

This is done on a computer and lasts 15 minutes.

Understanding the notation

The LanguageCert USAL esPro is graded on a scale of 0 to 100, from beginner level (A1) to full proficiency (C2) on the CEFR scale. There is no concept of pass or fail; the main goal is to accurately determine your level, thanks in particular to the adaptive format of the test. So, trust your knowledge, your preparation, and your intuition on test day.

The results of the reading and listening tests can be communicated by the supervisor immediately after the test, as the level is determined by the computer. On average, official results are sent within 48 hours. The results of the writing and speaking tests are sent within 5 to 8 working days and will be communicated by LanguageCert or your test center.

You will receive a test report with your overall score and the score for each skill assessed. This will be accompanied by a Can Do Statement listing your concrete skills in a professional context, as well as a certificate indicating the CEFR level equivalence.
