The TCF rating
The TCF rating
The TCF is a test made up of 3 compulsory tests (MCQ format):
- Listening comprehension
- Written comprehension
- Mastery of language structures
These three tests are each rated out of 699. The average of the three is then calculated to have an overall rating, also out of 699
Depending on your project, a minimum score will certainly be required by the establishment, company or institution through which you are taking the TCF. You will therefore need to inquire before the test with the institution requesting the TCF from you, to find out the required score.
The score obtained is then associated with the levels of the CEFR scale of the European Framework:
The TCF also includes two optional tests that the candidate decides to take or not, depending on their project and their needs ( see the tests according to the version of the TCF chosen ). These two tests are those of written expression and oral expression. They are marked out of 20 , and the correspondences between the score obtained and the level (CEFR) are as follows:
Finally, in the context of the TCF Canada, the NCLC levels must be taken into account in order to have a better idea of the score to obtain for each test. The correspondences between the score and the level are presented in the table below:
