The B2 First tests

The tests

THE B2 First is an English certification which consists of 4 tests:

Part 1: Reading and Use of English (1h15)

This first part is divided into 7:

• Parts 1 to 3 : Three fill-in-the-blank texts that must be completed with the correct words
• Part 4 : You need to rewrite sentences in a different way
• Part 5 : A long text with 6 multiple choice questions
• Part 6 : A text with 6 gaps that must be completed with the correct sentences.
• Part 7 : One or more texts with 10 questions

Part 2: Writing (1h20)

This second part is divided into 2:

• Part 1 : Write a 140-190 word essay answering a given question.
• Part 2 : Write a 140-190 word essay answering 1 of 4 given questions.

Part 3: Listening (40 minutes)

This third part is divided into 4:

• Part 1 : Listen to several recordings of approximately 30 seconds, then answer multiple-choice questions.
• Part 2 : Listen to a 3-4 minute monologue, then complete sentences with the correct information.
• Part 3 : Listen to 5 recordings of approximately 30 seconds each, and choose the correct answer from 8 options.
• Part 4 : Listen to a dialogue between two people lasting 3 to 4 minutes, then answer multiple-choice questions (7 questions).

Part 4: Speaking (14 minutes)

During this part you will be in groups of 2 or 3 with other candidates. This last part is divided into 4:

• Part 1 : You have a short conversation with the examiner.
• Part 2 : You have 1 minute to discuss two photos. After another candidate speaks, you have 30 seconds to respond to what they said.
• Part 3 : With your group of candidates you will have to discuss and make a decision on a given subject.
• Part 4 : You will need to talk with your group and your examiner about topics related to Part 3.
