Why take the DELF?
Why take the DELF?
The DELF ( What is the DELF? ) is a French as a second language diploma, it is aimed at people for whom French is not their native language. Taking the DELF can be interesting or even necessary for non-French speakers, whether to enter a university or for professional purposes. However, there are several DELF formats (DELF Pro, DELF Junior, DELF for the general public) which can make it difficult for the candidate to choose the right test.
Study or work in a French-speaking country
The DELF is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of National Education: it is a diploma recognized worldwide and valid for life which certifies that you have reached a certain level in mastery of French (A1, B1, etc.). It can therefore be very valuable on a CV ( if you wish to work in a French-speaking country, for example ).
For those who would like to enter French-speaking universities, in France or Canada for example, the DELF may prove necessary: In France, level B2 exempts you from taking a test to enter a university .
Which DELF for which candidate ?
The DELF exists in different formats, each aimed at a different audience (adolescent, adult, etc.). Each format exists in different levels of difficulty that follow the CECRL scale ( CEFRL levels ): you can therefore register for the level that best suits you.
- DELF for all audiences: for adults wishing to assess their French language skills, whether for personal reasons (knowing your level) or professional reasons (for a CV). Available from level A1 to B2
- DALF (Advanced Diploma in French Language): same as the DELF for the general public but for levels C1 to C2
- DELF Pro: for adults likely to work in a French-speaking environment. The test themes are focused on the world of work. The diploma received will include the mention "professional option". Available from levels A1 to B2
- DELF Prim: for students aged 7 to 12. Level A1.1, A1 and A2
- DELF Junior: for adolescents of secondary school age (12-17 years old). Levels A1 to B2
