1 - CELPIP: Main information
The CELPIP tests (along with IELTS General Training) are the primary general English tests used for immigration, citizenship, and professional certification in Canada.
Preparation for CELPIP
The CELPIP takes place on the computer in a single session, and includes the following functions: personal stopwatch, word counter and spell checker.
The accent used in the test videos and audios is the North American accent.
The English used in these audios and videos is easy to understand. The vocabulary used in them is taken from everyday situations.
Results are obtained online, within a period of 4 to 5 days after taking the test.
2 - The two CELPIP formats
There are two versions of CELPIP: CELPIP General, and CELPIP General LS.
CELPIP - General assesses English skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking.
- Test duration: 3 hours, in one session.
- This test format is required for: permanent residence applications approved by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), and for professional certifications.
CELPIP - General LS assesses listening and speaking skills in English.
- Test duration: 1 hour, in a single session.
- This test format is required for: Citizenship applications through the IRCC. It is also accepted for professional certifications.
