TOEFL ITP 2025 Test Practice
What is the TOEFL ITP ?
The TOEFL ITP is a variation of the TOEFL, developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). These internationally recognized tests assess the English language skills of non-native English speakers in an academic setting.
Specifically designed for educational institutions that have signed a contract with ETS Global, the TOEFL ITP is used for a variety of purposes: student placement, progress monitoring, ongoing assessment, and end-of-course validation. Reserved for students aged 16 and over, this test is often required for access to university exchange programs abroad and is based exclusively on academic content. The TOEFL ITP is available in two distinct versions:
- Level 1: for intermediate to advanced students;
- Level 2: For beginner to intermediate level students.
The results are valid for two years.
Please note: this version is not available to independent candidates, unlike the TOEFL iBT. Discover TOEFL iBT preparation !
The TOEFL ITP tests
The TOEFL ITP consists entirely of multiple-choice questions, with only one correct answer from four possible answers. It is divided into three distinct parts:
Listening comprehension
This test assesses your ability to understand spoken English in an academic context. You must listen to audio recordings and then answer questions. For Level 1, this part contains 50 questions, is marked out of 68 points, and lasts 35 minutes (30 questions, 50 points, and 22 minutes for Level 2). It is divided into three sections:
- Section A: Listening to short conversations (30 independent questions);
- Section B: listen to 2 long conversations (4 questions per conversation);
- Section C: listen to 3 long monologues as part of university courses (4 questions per monologue).
Written expression ( Structure and Written expression )
It assesses your knowledge of English grammar and syntax through various questions. For level 1, this part has 40 questions, is marked out of 68 points and lasts 25 minutes (25 questions, 50 points and 17 minutes for level 2). It has 2 parts:
- Part 1: Complete the sentences (15 independent questions);
- Part 2: Identify the error in the sentences (25 independent questions).
Reading comprehension
The test assesses your ability to read and understand academic texts in English. You must read five independent extracts from university textbooks and then answer 10 questions per text. For Level 1, this part is marked out of 67 points and lasts 55 minutes (40 questions, 50 points, and 31 minutes for Level 2).
Understanding the notation
The scores from the three sections are added together, then an average is calculated and multiplied by 10 to obtain the final score, which is out of a total of 667 points for level 1. This score corresponds to the levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
To achieve levels A2 to C1, you must obtain at least the following scores for TOEFL ITP Level 1:
