Explanations of how the test is graded
How is the DELF score calculated?
The purpose of the DELF ( What is the DELF? ) is to certify a minimum level of mastery of French by the candidate. The result therefore does not consist of a score where it would be a question of doing one's best, but of a mark. If the candidate obtains the threshold score, he validates his diploma with the chosen level .
Note of the different parts
All levels (from A1 to C2…) are marked using an assessment grid that ensures the best possible mark for each candidate. All sections are also marked using the same number of points ( What the DELF contains ).
The examiner's assessment grid will be similar for all parts of the test. It guides the examiner in grading: the more the candidate's answers match the grid's requirements, the more points they earn.
The different criteria of the evaluation grid:
- compliance or non-compliance with the instructions
- vocabulary used (basic or provided) in the case of written and oral expression
- good use of spelling and grammar
- coherence of the message for written and oral expression
Other, more specific criteria vary between different parties. These grids are there to ensure the most accurate scoring possible .
Note to validate the DELF
To validate the diploma, you must have a minimum of 50 out of 100. There is no point in getting a much higher score, since it guarantees you the diploma.
We are not telling you this so that you aim for the minimum but so that you pass the level that best suits you . It is better to pass, for example, the DELF level B1 and pass it rather than pass the B2 and fail with a score below 50/100. You can always take the DELF at the next level later, while failing the test, although instructive, can be avoided if you choose the appropriate level .
Moreover, A minimum score of 5/25 in each test is required to pass the exam . A lower score in any of the tests is disqualifying. It is therefore essential to know exactly what your level is when registering for the test.
