How does the DELF exam work?

Everything you need to know about what to expect on exam day

How does the DELF exam work?

Arrival at the center

Check the date assigned to you. You will receive it directly if you register in person at your test center or by mail if you registered remotely. You will be summoned on one or two days depending on the exam center : some administer the written tests first and then the oral tests. Check directly with your center to find out their conditions.

No delays will be accepted. However, if a delay occurs due to public transport, for example, a justification may be accepted: you will then be offered an alternative date.

You must have valid identification for both written and oral exams. You will not be allowed to take the exam without it. A summons with your individual oral exam times will be given to you on the day of the exam.

DELF preparation

During the exam

Leave your cell phone in your bag, turned off of course. You should have a blue or black pen with you. Writing with a pencil is prohibited .

The monolingual dictionary is authorized for the DALF C1 oral tests and for all DALF C2 tests ( What is the DELF? ).

You will not be able to go out for the duration of the tests ( How long is the DELF? ).

Receive your results

Results delivery times vary depending on the testing center you choose. Some will mail them directly to you within 4 weeks.

At other centers, they will be posted and available for consultation on-site, and you will be responsible for collecting them. However, if you are no longer on-site, you can leave an envelope so that your results can be sent to you. A third party may also collect them for you.

If the exam is passed, you will receive the diploma within 4 months of the exam.
