Explanations of the conditions for taking the test
How does the IELTS test work?
The IELTS English test ( What is IELTS? ) is the most popular English language test in the world. Taking this test can open many doors for you, but it can also be a stressful time. Here's a detailed rundown of an IELTS session so you can arrive in the best possible shape on exam day.
Arrival at the center
Check the time of the appointment at the center chosen during your registration ( How to register for the IELTS? ). You must have with you the identity document with which you registered.
Preparation
Turn off your cell phone and place it in your bag, which you will leave outside the venue. You may bring a snack and a bottle of water, but there will be no break time during the first 3 parts of the test (Listening, Reading, Writing) ( What the IELTS contains ).
During the test
The first three parts of the test (Reading, Listening, Writing) last 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Since the Speaking section takes place in front of a panel of judges, you may not take this section on the same day as the other tests. The test center will inform you of the dates; at most, this could be a week before or after.
Keep an eye on the time. Some questions will have time limits to help you complete them.
Results
Results will be available 13 days after the test and will be emailed to you. They will also be available online for 28 days.
