TOEFL Preparation

Duration of the test

The TOEFL takes longer than the IELTS: 4 hours and 2 hours 45 minutes respectively.

Preference of certain countries

TOEFL and IELTS are accepted by most universities in the world . However, TOEFL is more popular in the United States and Canada while IELTS is more popular in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries (Australia, New Zealand, etc.).

If you are interested in a particular institution, inquire directly with them to find out which test they recommend: some institutions only accept one or the other.

Mode of administration

The TOEFL iBT is computer-based, while the IELTS is paper-based. Additionally, the IELTS Speaking section is administered in front of an examiner with whom you interact. The TOEFL Speaking section, on the other hand, is computer-based with a microphone. If you're not comfortable testing in front of a real person, consider the TOEFL instead.
