How long is the TOEFL IBT test?

How long is the TOEFL iBT test?

A TOEFL IBT session ( What is TOEFL? ) lasts on average 4 hours . The test is fully completed on computer and the time starts automatically when you start the test.

Among the four sections that make up the exam ( How is the TOEFL IBT done? ), some are likely to vary in duration while others have a fixed duration:

- The first section, Reading , is generally composed of 3 written documents, each followed by between 12 and 14 questions. You have 60 minutes . The number of documents can however vary, with a maximum of 5: you then have 90 minutes.

- The second section, Listening , is generally composed of 6 audio documents, each followed by 5 or 6 questions. You have 60 minutes . Here too, if there are more documents, you have more time: there may be up to 9 documents (more rare), the time allowed is then 90 minutes .

- the third section, Speaking , lasts 20 minutes . There are 6 questions.

- the fourth section, Writing , lasts 50 minutes . There are 2 questions.

You will benefit from a 10 minute break after the end of the second section of the test. This will be the time to regain your concentration (feel free to bring a small snack for this break).

You also have the right to get up at any time during the test to go to the toilet for example, but it should be noted that the time available to you will continue to run, so it is essential to know very well manage your time .
