What is BULATS?
The Business Language Testing Service, or BULATS, allows you to assess your level of English for the workplace. It is generally used by companies to evaluate the English proficiency of their employees, applicants, or interns. It can also be used by higher education institutions and professional training organizations.
Cheaper than the TOEIC or TOEFL, it remains highly valuable on a CV and is internationally recognized.
An adaptive test
The standard test adapts to your level from the first question. If you answer correctly, the next one will be more difficult. Conversely, if you answer incorrectly, you will be given an easier question. And so on.
The standard test lasts 110 minutes. It costs between €50 and €80 including tax for individuals and can drop to around €40 for grandes écoles, universities, or companies.
Score and validity
The assessment is based on a BULATS score between 0 and 100 and a 6-level CEFR grid. Your score is communicated to you at the end of the exam. Results are valid for two years. Beyond that, it is recommended to retake the test as your level may have changed.
CPF eligibility
Like the TOEIC, BULATS is eligible for the Compte Personnel de Formation (CPF) and internationally recognized. However, the TOEIC remains the more widely used of the two, as it is mainly favored by foreign universities and better known by companies.
